Thanks for all the compliments! I tried to put more feeling in my work. I find it hard to be personal...and this is a very touchy subject for me. Masochism may have entered into the cliche, but that's no relief for me.
I'm somewhat happy with it too.

the colors are great, love the purple, yellow shading. Like that you have used oil pastel, like the texture it gives. The only thing that seems a bit of is the arm, something with the proportion that don't seem right. This could stand alone no doubt, but I look forward to see the rest.

I was thinking the same thing about my arm! I've just checked it now again against my reference and it is in the right place and the right size. I was considering enlargeing my arm because it looks funny to me as well. But it must be the shirt some how since I just threw that on there last minute with out reference. *L* wasn't i just saying how i'm NOT good at drawing w/o reference?
The composition was more to bring attention to my arm specifically, i hope it actually does make sence on the full view! I like your interpritation a lot though. As it's true about something and someone behind me that i'm addressing in this drawing.

My main criticism is minor - I'd like to see a greater range of values in the hair - it's very flat compared to the rest of you. Also, I'm afraid that, for my eye at least, the composition does not draw attention to your arm, rather, to your shoulder/chest area to the right of the arm. Part of that may be how far you pushed that patch of darkness there.

I *really* like the horozontal line-making with your choice of lighting and composition - it works really well. I'm also impressed by your use of the media. I've never managed to get an effect quite like that.

Overall, it's a very striking piece. So, yes, it does stand on its own. I'm not too sure about the white on the left though - it should stay light/white, yes, but it's very uniform right now.
